1974 Jivan lived with her husband Graham in Swayambhu village near Katmandu, Nepal, as she was pregnant with their son. She was just 18 years old and it was heavy to carry the growing baby.

The Nepalese and Tibetan women wrapped their pregnant bellies in beautiful home woven cloths - and still do. When Jivan started wrapping her pregnant belly she noticed that it shifted the weight away from the belly and lower back, allowing the hips and pelvis to carry the weight instead.

2008 Jivan's girlfriend Johanna was graced by her second pregnancy. Since Jivan was invited to be present at the birth she came along to all the meetings with the midwife and maternity doctor.

When Johanna was beginning to develop a hernia Jivan remembered what she learned from the Tibetan and Nepalese women and how she had wrapped her own pregnant belly. She wrapped Johanna's belly with a shawl in the same way, tucking in a folded piece of cloth pressing against the area.

It worked and both Johanna's doctor and midwife loved the result, but the problem was that Johanna couldn't wrap it in the same way on her own.

One night Jivan woke up and understood how she could design BellyHug and how it would work for Johanna. The seed that was sown so many years ago in Nepal now started to sprout in a slightly new shape for a modern woman.

BellyHug maternity belt was born a week later on Johanna's dining room table. She wore it right through her pregnancy and never developed a hernia. She also wore it after the birth of their son, which quickened the proccess of her belly returning to its previous shape.

About us

We honor Mother Earth by serving the mother-baby relationship during pregnency and the first few months after birth. We run the business in alignment with the new earth in overflowing joy from our womanly hearts. Jivan Wells

I am a mother and grandmother. My son and grandson live in Fairfax, USA. I live in Järna just south of Stockholm with my cat, surrounded by mother nature and good friends.

I have always been an entrepreneur. I am educated in leadership, teambuilding, personal and spiritual development since the early seventies. I work as a coach and leadership trainer since 1992 in many parts of the world. My book Moment of truth - handbook for a new leadership in a new time, was published October 2011.

Jenny Höglund
